Hey guys,

Well before I begin writing this blog, let me tell you that it’s my very first blog ever!!! Hence, the standard of writing may not be as good as the TIG veterans. lol …

So on Tuesday, I was given the opportunity to attend “A roundtable discussion on 160 years of Democracy…” organized by CBC, in Toronto. That event was an EXPERIENCE. Quite frankly, when Kimia sent me the invite, I didn’t really have too high of expectations; but, when I got there it was a different story altogether.

I walk in and the person I see is John Ralston Saul, and I was like hmm okay Adrian Clarkson’s husband is here … that’s cool! Then I head towards coat check and I see Adrian Clarkson (I almost fainted) and Suhana (the newscaster on CBC), I thought DUH I am at CBC maybe she came to use the washroom or something (what I didn’t realized is that it is CBC and they must have more then one washroom)!

Anyhow, my brother and I (he had tagged along, by the way thank you Kimia for allowing him to come), started to “mingle” and ran into a few other people who’s names I forget. So after a while we ran into Kimia and PJ (TIG’s environment guy). Then Zaib Shaikh (the Imaam guy from Little Mosque on the Prairie) and John Ralston Saul came and spoke to us (in my mind I was thinking “my sister will be so jealous, SWEET!”).

So the event started, and we started discussing what democracy meant to us. The responses that we had at my table were fascinating. After hearing them I felt that Democracy truly is an isomorphic. For example, some people mentioned that democracy meant freedom to them, while others stated that it adds duty of care on each and everyone’s shoulders, hence limiting their freedom from truly exercising their beliefs.

Once we finished our discussions we all presented to the rest of the attendees. I felt that although we had similar perceptions of democracy our ways of expressing them were quite contrasting.

After the discussions culminated, we went for the taping of The Hour with George Stoumboulouplous (I hope I spelt it correct, this name can be a great spelling bee challenge!); and that too was great fun.
